Hutanriau is an independent Indonesian non-profit organisation working at the intersection of communities, forests, and environmental governance. We combine local knowledge, participatory approaches, scientific evidence, and long-term partnerships to support equitable and sustainable change.
We combine participatory mapping, field research, community facilitation, institutional strengthening, and practical conservation action to develop solutions grounded in local realities.

Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities and Territorial Governance
We strengthen community rights, customary and local institutions, participatory mapping, social forestry, FPIC, land-use planning, and inclusive territorial decision-making.

Community-Led Ecosystem Restoration and Climate Resilience
We support community-led restoration of forests, peatlands, riparian areas, and degraded landscapes, combined with long-term stewardship, climate adaptation, water security, and fire prevention.

Biodiversity Conservation and Wildlife Coexistence
We combine biodiversity monitoring, habitat protection and recovery, ecological connectivity, species conservation, and locally appropriate approaches to human-wildlife coexistence.

Sustainable Livelihoods and Community Enterprise
We strengthen forest-compatible livelihoods through non-timber forest products, agroforestry, ecotourism, local processing, skills development, and community enterprise.

Knowledge, Research and Evidence for Practice and Policy
We bring together traditional and local knowledge, participatory research, environmental and social studies, spatial evidence, community monitoring, and learning to improve practice and policy.
