Hutanriau accompanied 29 self-managed community groups across 11 villages and four subdistricts, helping connect field implementation with strong local organisation and accountable programme delivery.

Why this work mattered
Rehabilitation depends on people and institutions, not planting alone
Large-scale forest and land rehabilitation places demanding technical, administrative, and accountability responsibilities on community groups. Membership changes, land claims, field constraints, and reporting requirements can weaken implementation when groups do not receive consistent support.
This programme combined field assistance with institutional strengthening, administration, mediation, coordination, documentation, and reporting. The approach helped groups work through practical challenges while maintaining links with KPH Singingi and other stakeholders.

Results and learning
Effective rehabilitation requires continuity across several years
The 2019 phase established the programme’s community and operational foundations. Support continued through first-year maintenance in 2020 and second-year maintenance in 2021.
The experience showed that planting is only one part of rehabilitation. Long-term quality also depends on group organisation, maintenance, financial administration, documentation, coordination, and timely problem solving.
